AI reporting can help explain verified figures and draft a narrative, but it should not become the source of the underlying numbers. Calculations and definitions need to remain traceable to the approved dataset.
Prepare the metrics using controlled queries or calculations. Give the model the period, units, definitions and relevant comparisons. Distinguish a factual change in the numbers from an explanation of why it happened; the latter may require evidence the dataset does not contain.
Check every material figure and relationship in the draft. A rise in sales alongside a campaign does not by itself establish that the campaign caused the rise. Require source references and flag missing context instead of accepting a confident causal story.
Keep the approved data snapshot and reviewed report together. Record revisions and the responsible approver. Measure whether the workflow reduces reporting effort while preserving accuracy, rather than whether it generates longer or more polished text.
