Incoterms 2020 rules allocate specified delivery responsibilities, costs and risk between seller and buyer when incorporated into the sale contract. They should be used with a precise named place or port and the intended version.
Choose a rule that fits the transport arrangement and the parties' ability to perform their obligations. Review delivery, loading or unloading, carriage, insurance and customs responsibilities as applicable to that rule. The point where risk transfers may differ from the destination to which a seller pays carriage.
Address payment, ownership, product specifications and dispute resolution separately. ICC explains that Incoterms rules do not decide those matters and are not themselves a complete sale contract. Keep related commercial documents consistent with the agreed arrangement.
Check the proposed rule against the actual route and legal constraints before quotation. Use the official rule text for a consequential decision rather than an oversimplified chart. Record changes to the named location or delivery scope clearly.
