AI decision support provides information or recommendations to a person responsible for a decision. The system's role should be clear: a recommendation is not an authorized action, and a confidence score is not a guarantee of correctness.
Define the decision, available evidence and alternatives. Ask the system to distinguish known facts, assumptions and missing information. In a supplier review, for example, a summary should identify an absent specification rather than fill the gap with a plausible claim.
Evaluate recommendations against expert-reviewed cases and the consequences of different errors. Make the relevant source material accessible to the reviewer. Avoid judging quality only by agreement with a previous decision that may itself have been flawed.
Record how the recommendation was used and what additional evidence changed the outcome. Review recurring disagreements and failures. Human responsibility is meaningful when the reviewer has time, information and authority to challenge the result.
