Lead routing connects a marketplace inquiry with the person who can assess and answer it. Without a clear handoff, relevant buyer questions can sit in a shared inbox or receive a sales response before the technical requirement has been understood.
Define the fields needed to route a request, such as product family, application, quantity, destination and delivery expectation. Assign an owner and a backup for each inquiry type. Distinguish requests that can use a standard offer from those requiring engineering, production or regulatory review.
Keep the buyer's original wording with the internal summary. Record missing information, promised response dates and the next decision rather than passing along only a contact name. An automated classification should remain reviewable when the inquiry is ambiguous.
Measure whether routed leads receive a complete and relevant response. Review reassigned requests and missed follow-ups to improve the process. Listing visibility becomes commercially useful when the team can maintain continuity from the first question through quotation and order review.
