A tabletop exercise tests a continuity plan through a simulated disruption discussed by the people who would respond. It can reveal unclear authority, missing contacts and dependencies that the written plan overlooks.
Choose a realistic scenario and introduce events in stages. Ask participants what they would do, which information they need and how they would communicate. Record assumptions and unresolved decisions without turning the exercise into a test of individual memory.
Assign actions to address the gaps and check that they are completed. Repeat the exercise when important systems or responsibilities change. Use the findings to improve the plan before attempting a more disruptive live test.
